ADDRESSING CHALLENGE 2: INTEROPERABLE AUTHENTICATION AND AUTHORISATION

Interoperability amongst AAI systems is a key component to enable intensified reuse of human data. We will develop standardised researcher IDs that include trusted credentials of the researcher incorporating affiliations and information on authorisations already granted.

Most human genetic datasets are subject to controlled access, under the control of a Data Access Committee (DAC) which regulates access to the data to comply with the consent agreements signed by participants. Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI) is a fundamental requirement to achieve secure access to the data, enabling downstream clinical and research applications.

Controlled Access Data

Interoperability amongst the AAI systems implemented is therefore a key component to facilitate intensified reuse of human data. For this reason, we are incorporating concepts such as GA4GH Passports into the AAI, which include trusted credentials of the researcher including affiliations, and information on authorisations already granted. This will enable more simplified and rapid access to data, whilst maintaining current rigour for data access.

Using GA4GH passports in GA4GH APIs

By implementing GA4GH protocols like Passports, ensuring CINECA interoperability with other global cohort infrastructures, WP2 is complying with CINECA’s commitment to FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable Reusable).
