Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) is the German Research Center for Environmental Health and belongs to Germany’s largest research organisation: the Helmholtz Association. As a leading research center with a focus on the interaction between health and environment in common diseases, Helmholtz Zentrum München wants to preserve and improve the health of individuals by developing innovative strategies for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. By combining health research and environmental research, HMGU deciphers previously unknown connections between genetics, lifestyle and the environment. The project activity is based in the Institute of Translational Genomics (ITG).

At ITG, the research leverages big data in genetics and genomics for medically important human traits. The aim is to translate insights from genomics into mechanisms of disease development and progression, shortening the path to translation and empowering precision medicine.
